Sometimes the best ideas are born out of boredom—and a touch of curiosity. For Aware House founder Lauren Hidalgo, it began in a Houston apartment, post-pandemic, with too much free time and too few friends. Her husband’s frequent Huckberry shipments sparked an idea: why wasn’t there a marketplace like that for women—curated, elevated, and intentional, but focused on American-made goods?

What started with five suppliers and a handful of handmade items has since grown into a thriving digital marketplace connecting nearly a hundred artisans and small businesses across the United States. Not just items for women, but for anyone looking to support small businesses while simultaneously purchasing expertly crafted items.

“I wanted to make it easier to find high-quality, American-made products that tell a story,” Hidalgo says. “Most of these makers can’t afford big advertising budgets, but their craftsmanship deserves to be seen.”
